2. UPDATE: I got a lot of useful feedback on this piece that helped me to enhance it even more. Thanks very much! But nobody spotted the mistake on her eyes!
3.Version:
Removed her eyebrows because real Na'vi don't have them!
Gave her a plastic surgery and corrected her nose.
The first deviation of the year is dedicated to the fantastic world of Pandora!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Yes, I've watched AVATAR, too. Twice. I must tell you there is hardly another film that impressed me that much in the last decade. I really love the film, the story, the incredible realistic pictures of the Pandora scenery and its residents, the beautiful Na'vi race. The biota is beyond words! The extraordinary trees, the plants, the floating Hallelujah Mountains, the flying dragons - the banshees and Toruk, the Last Shadow - all this takes computer animated movies to a whole new level. I will be inspired for the next years by this film!
Just in case you haven't seen the movie yet - go and watch it!!!
Now it's the first time that I have done some kind of fan art. I realized that many fans of AVATAR are around, there is even a fan group on DA. But I didn't want to post another drawing of Neytiri or Jake Sully or my own face turned into an avatar. I followed my own project with my version of a Na'vi.
Sylwanin A'itey is the sister of Neytiri, and she first appeared on James Cameron's Avatar: iPod/iPhone Game. Due to an absence in the film, her current status is unknown, but she is assumed to reside as a princess of the Omaticaya Clan. I don't know how Sylwanin really looks since I haven't played the game but here is my fantastic version of her!
The manipulation is another extended work going very much into the details. I've spend two days of work on it. So if you like it or don't feel free to comment and leave a critique. I'd appreciate that very much! Thank you!
This piece of work is truly beautiful. I love the clarity in art like this, and the textures in the skin and braided hair to the mesmerizing eyes truly adds life to this character. I think that the glowing white freckles are very accurate according to the Na'vi, as well as the chosen skin color. You did a great job with the feline-like nose in my opinion, and I feel it is realistic to the Na'vi's appearance as well. Despite the fact that all Na'vi' originally have black hair, the red tint to the hair brings out the red in the feathers in her hair, and beautifully matches her eyes. The facial proportions are correct, and evenly placed, and I think you picked a good picture to edit. Overall; Stunning. You really captured the Na'vi features, and added a beautiful twist to it with this one. Great work.
Disclaimer on the star rating: I don't do that sort of thing, so the rating is in no way a representative on how I feel about the picture. In my opinion critique isn't about rating whether a picture is hot or not, but simply about providing feedback.
This is also my first critique ever, so I hope I do a good job with it!
So first of all, I just think the picture overall is well done. The texture is convincing and you integrated all the features very well such as the eyes and the hair. The photoshopped features on the source material are executed well. I'm not very good at saying what exactly I like about a picture if I just... like it, so this is something to bear in mind when reading everything else which I think could use improvement.
For one, I think the background is too cluttered and distracting. There is too much detail, too high contrast, and all that distracts from the main focus: the portrait (which is by comparison less high-contrast and detailed). I think lowering the brightness and contrast of the background (except maybe, the upper left corner) would help make the portrait jump out more without actually retracting from the overall quality or "feel" of the picture as a whole.
The dreads and the accessories in the hair are somewhat poorly integrated in the picture. The dreads themselves aren't photoshopped at all but you have to bear something in mind when you do (or rather, don't) do something like this: The color scheme of the rest of the picture. This picture is set in Pandora where everything is cast in a blue light. This picture kind of demonstrates what I mean: [link] The fact that the feathers and dreads are still influenced by the same neutral studio lighting when integrated in a picture that's supposed to be on a brightly blue planet makes them stand out, in a bad way.
There's also something about the eyes that doesn't quite sit well with me, though I can't pinpoint the cause with as much confidence as I did for the previous two points. Maybe it's their size (yes, they're even big for na'vi eyes), or the saturation, or the fact that their color seems completely un-influenced by the rest of the environment (basically the same criticism I have for the dreads and feathers). Maybe it's all those things or some of them or none of them, I'm not quite sure. (I should however note that I'm not a big fan of using big eyes as a way of making a picture seem more appealing, and I personally think it's a bit of a cheap tactic. I do however recognise that it's a technique that appeals to a lot of people, so make of that what you will.)
...And that concludes my first critique! I hope you found it somewhat helpful
WOW thats really good, Lol i made myself into an avatar as well. Love the detail in the eyes. Amazing work with the hair and the texture on the skin! Truly a fan
this is a very nice remake. but it dosent look anthing like sylwanin, but still good. ive been comparing the sylwanin to neytiri. neytiri has a hour glass nose, while sylwanin has a more slanted nose, also has a slightly more rigid facail structure, while neytiri's face is slightly more rounded. lastly, neytiri's nose is a tiny bit more wider, while sylwanin is more boney. a great picture though.
