H

HTML
HyperText Markup Language, the predominant markup language for web pages. HTML is the basic building-blocks of webpages.

HTML Colors
HTML colors are displayed as a combination of red, green, and blue light. You can use any number from 0 to 255 for each value to get an RGB code that you can use for colors. This gives you more than 16 million colors to choose from (256 x 256 x 256). And most modern monitors are capable of displaying at least 16,000 colors.

Hierarchy
While one element should be dominant you can create a hierarchy of dominance in order to guide people through your design. By creating a visual hierarchy in your design, you enable your page to be scanned and communicate the relative importance of different parts of the whole.

Hyphenation
The addition of a hyphen (-) at the end of lines to help prevent problems in readability or make justification look better. Most Web designers ignore hyphenation, as it is not something that is handled well automatically by Web browsers.

Lines and linework
A basic element of design. They add to the style of a design and can enhance the comprehension and readability of a design. Lines can be used as a border around elements or a divider between elements.

Layout
The layout of a web page is usually what people think of when they think of web design. In word processing and desktop publishing, layout refers to the arrangement of text and graphics. The layout of a document can determine which points are emphasized, and whether the document is aesthetically pleasing. A powerful desktop publishing system can make it easier to lay out professional-looking documents.

Logo
Logo designs and interfaces are trademarks used by a manufacturer or merchant to identify the origin or ownership of goods and to distinguish them from others. Navigation
Putting up good navigation on your Web sites allows your readers to easily find their way around. Keep in mind, that while you may be designing the site for yourself, if you want someone else to read it, you need to design the navigation with their needs in mind. If people can't navigate your site, they will leave it.

O

Open source
Relating to source code that is available to the public without charge. Open-source code is often enhanced, improved, and adapted for specific purposes by interested programmers, with the revised versions of the code are made available to the public. For example, most of the code in the linux operating system is open-source.
