General-purpose scripting language originally designed for web development to produce dynamic web pages. For this purpose, PHP code is embedded into the HTML source document and interpreted by a web server with a PHP processor module, which generates the web page document.
Principles of Design
Basic design principles include contrast, repetition, alignment, rhythm and proximity.
Packaging designs for boxes or paper-based materials which is then folded to contain objects.
Rhythm in design is also called repetition. Rhythm allows your designs to develop an internal consistency that makes it easier for your customers to understand. Once the brain recognizes the pattern in the rhythm it can relax and understand the whole design.
A basic element of design. Shapes can be defined as a closed contour or a form that has the illusion of three dimensions. The human mind is able to visually organize forms and shapes into a unified whole. By controlling design elements and how each element affects those around it you affect the cumulative perception of the viewer. A small change in one element affects how the other elements in your design are perceived.
Informative signs and notices.
A basic element of design. Texture is what gives a design the feeling of a surface. It is the tactile sense of the elements in the design. In Web design, texture is visual, but it provides the illusion of physical texture.
Design or selection of letter forms (typefaces) to be organized into words and sentences and printed or displayed electronically. Typography has its roots in handwritten letterforms. It encompasses everything from calligraphy through digital type and type on Web pages. It also includes type designers who create new letterforms as well as designers and calligraphers who use the letters as part of their designs. The three major type families in the history of Western printing are roman, italic, and black letter (Gothic). All had their origin in the scripts of the calligraphers whose work was ultimately replaced by printing. Typography uses typefaces and the whitespace around and through them to create a whole design.
A family of fonts. Fonts are one weight or style within that family.
Graphic illustrations designed specifically to be on t-shirts and displayed in its applied form and as normally designed.
Original tattoo designs and tattoos inked by the deviant on paper or drawn on a computer.
Theatre, film and performance design including costumes, sets, lighting, props and make-up.
Unity exists when your design elements are in agreement; when they belong together and arent arbitrarily placed or added to the design. Agreement can be either visual, conceptual or both. Unity in design is also called proximity.
Visual flow carries the viewer's eye through the document in a way that all the important elements receive prominence, and nothing snags the vision or causes the viewer to lose sense of the piece. Using obvious flow elements like arrows or numbers is the most common way Web designers use flow, but there are other types of elements that can be used and mis-used to direct your readers to move along a specific path.
Graphics/sketches for cars, trucks, skateboards, snowboards, space shuttles, race cars, and other transportation.
Whitespace or negative space is the space between design elements. Its just as, if not more, important than the space you fill and is one of the most neglected components of visual design.
Widows and orphans
Words that are left all alone on a line or page. A single word at the end of a column is a widow and if it's at the top of a new column it's an orphan. Widows and orphans look bad and can be hard to read. Many web designers don't worry about them because they think that they can only occur in print designs. But because web designers can't always control the width of their pages, their designs can end up with widows and orphans in the text if they are not careful.
Refers to the interaction between a user and software running on a Web server. A web interface is an application in which all or some parts of the software are downloaded from the Web each time it is run. The user interface is the Web browser and the Web page it has downloaded and rendered.
Open source blog tool and publishing platform powered by PHP and MySQL. It's often customized into a Content Management System (CMS). It has many features including a plug-in architecture and a template system.
