It is not uncommon that certain deviations on DA are going to fall victim to the removal by the administration because of any kind of policy violation. This proceeding is important to keep this place clean from art theft and pornographic, hateful, racist or demeaning submissions. So far so good. But I want to ask: Who decides what is a copyright violation or a pornographic picture or the meaning of a motive? As it seems only a suspicion is enough for DA administrators to implement the inevitable action without consideration of the people's intention or the situation on the matter. We are all human and we all make mistakes. Both DA members and DA administrators! Therefore it is important to handle all supposed problems carefully and in a kind manner.

In my opinion it is required to be informed by the responsible people in a RESPECTFUL and appropriate way about the doubtful deviations before they remove any pictures that contains assumed copyrighted materials or other forbidden contents. One the one hand it is always possible that an admin mistakes and there is no policy violation or at least the matter is in a grey area and on the other hand all members should have a chance to fix their mistakes because a lot of policy violations are committed unwittingly and in good faith. But the behavior that C&E admins feature is simply a disregard of concerned persons.

Read about my removed deviation in this journal.
Of course I posted my request to the Helpdesk for restoring my work under the circumstances of fixing all included copyright violations. The answer was no.
Additionally I want to mention Nina Larsen's story :iconninazdesign:
She is an amazing talented photographer whose artistic nude photo have been deleted because of policy violation. Follow this link to read about her painful experience.

A new case was brought to my attention. SeverinaSnape :iconiconicimagery: had a bad day because her magazine cover design was removed from her gallery because in the opinion of the admin she collected foreign materials from a printed magazine and submitted it to her account without asking if she had the right to redistribute this material.
This was the deviation img.photobucket.com/albums/v39… and the link to her Online Magazine.
Please read her journal here and support her!

I want to sympathize with all people who felt badly treated by this kind of proceeding, whose deviations have been deleted unjustifiablely. If you know those people please let them know that there is still a community. Please leave a comment here, I will update this journal anytime a fellow needs our support and I will readily answer also to criticizing comments in this journal. All comments with your opinions on that matter are appreciated!

To get the chance to leave your opinion easily I will provide a poll for that matter of proceeding on supposed copyright violations or other forbidden contents. Go here and vote: POLL

:bulletred: :bulletred: :bulletred: :bulletred: :bulletred: Update 31-Aug-2006 :bulletred: :bulletred: :bulletred: :bulletred: :bulletred:

Since my poll is running for a quite while now (19-June-2006) I will inform you about the intermediate result. It was very interesting to read all the comments and suggestions. The most people agreed that the copyright violation issue could managed in a more respectful way than it is actually done.

Here are the rates to that day:

The most important additional suggestions:

:bulletblue: There should be an investigation in any case
:bulletblue: A team of admins should investigate the deviation in question
:bulletblue: The handling should be democratic
:bulletblue: Questionable pictures only should be hidden from the public during the investigation, not removed
:bulletblue: A clear response on questions should be given

Most of the commenting deviants mean any person should have the right to defence BEFORE their deviation has been removed!!!

As I promised to many of you I recreated my community deviation that was removed from my gallery. I took out "suspicious" parts and added furthermore about 90 new icons to the collage. Please be kind and leave a comment there if you like it! Spread it to the community so this will be available to as many deviants as possible. Thank you very much!

I know this post is old, but it would have been great if it could be promoted to a news item that could be properly promoted.

Many of my favourite artists have been the victims of admins who seem to be on a power trip. I know the rules very well and very few of these works even near the line of violation.

I also think the people reporting these works need to be pulled into line. They obviously feel the need to police and censor everyone's work based on their own moral judgement. There should be a limit to the number of reports someone can make. And anyone found to be consistently reporting works they find offensive but are not in violation should have their account temporarily suspended--these people only encourage intolerance and spoil everyone else's experience here.
